I'm posting from another computer.
My own computer keeps having start up problems.

It starts loading up, but then a blue screen shows up ohmy.gif
It says something about a BIOS error, but the screen only shows for a second!
After that it restarts and does THE SAME THING all over again.

i've seen the blue screen before but i've never had something like that happen.

you may want to see your dealer about it.

I can help you with this problem. Can you please email me your computer info? I need the maker and model number. Clearing the CMOS jumber should do it but, I can't be more specific until I know what kind of comp u have.

Hey Emerald
try a memory dump.

I get that screen a couple of times and that's what I do to solve it.
(Sometimes it does it all by itself)

Can you say what it says? What exactly is the BIOS error.

It shows for a second? Hmm.

You should get your installation disk and put it in when starting up. You should put in the command for chkdsk if you can. Either use the CD or see if you can access it from command prompt.

If that were the case it would not say "BIOS error". Those installation disks do nothing for the BIOS as the BIOS is on a chip on the motherboard and not on the hard drive like the operating system.

Like I said before... If you tell me your comp maker and model number I can tell you how to clear the CMOS, which pretty much resets the BIOS and all you need to do after that is tell it to load default settings.

Or it might be a bad chip that finally died. sad.gif

I remember a similar problem with my computer Shogo.
A blue screen would show up when I loaded up after an odd power outage at the university. It would only show up for 1 to 3 seconds. I saw something about a bios error and it told me to restart. It kept doing that until I got my disc and put chkdsk command. That's just my case, but it's worth trying.

Maybe a BIOS driver or several are not working. I've had plenty of blue screens in my time. Some show up until you hit any key, and then there is the blue blur of death you are experiencing. I had to get a recovery disk to fix mine sad.gif

Comp went bye bye mad.gif

You know this blue screen BIOS crap got me sick of microsoft.
I ended up with a mac and I kept my pc.

Anyways you should do what Pro says first, then give out your computer model to Shogo if things don't go so well. rolleyes.gif Isn't craprosoft annoying?

Thanks for the help Shogo. I've got a Vaio Desktop. I'm not sure about the year but I have pentium 3. I'm due for an update I know.

I told my brother about it and he was able to get the screen to stay lit a bit longer. It says there is a bios problem but it is caused by a power surge or power failure. That's what it said! We ended up talking to my dad about it and he's repaired it. (I don't think he did it, and if that's true I wonder what it cost him ohmy.gif)

Ewwww. You need to buy a surge protector (a thing that has lots of outlets on it) so this doesnt happen again. You might have fried the circuits. But.... if you got lucky... and it only wipped out the BIOS memory... then you can maybe clear the CMOS or reflash it all together. But, thats only if your lucky.

Knowing its a Vaio helps, but I still need numbers.

Like Sony Vaio ###-## or something of that sort. I think they go with 3 digits, then 2 letters I think.
